“When I took my first golf shot at The First Tee of Greater Dallas, it went backwards and between my legs about ten yards!” remembers alumna Valeria De Fex.

With the help of mentors and coaches who turned her first terrible golf shot into a long line of amazing ones, Valeria went on to excel at the sport and exemplify the nine core values. She was selected to play in The First Tee Open at Pebble Beach, to attend the Life Skills Academy, Future Leaders Forum and was chosen to be one of The First Tee Scholars.

“I had no clue how to hit the ball,” continues Valeria, “but I will always remember my coach telling me, ‘Val, you have great balance!’ That moment of finding some good in what seemed to be a very bad situation changed my life and inspired me.”

junior golfThe First Tee uses golf to create fun ways to deliver high-quality youth programs that build character and develop leadership skills. Each lesson is designed to be exciting, interactive and engaging.

Coaches follow a philosophy centered on positively reinforcing a participant’s actions and ensuring a great experience. The junior golfers are encouraged to implement what they learned during their lesson in school, at home and with friends.
