BOISE, Idaho (July 23, 2019) – Nearly 100 participants from 63 First Tee chapters around the country will converge in Boise this week to participate in the Joe Louis Barrow, Jr. Life Skills & Leadership Academy. Two local participants from the First Tee of Idaho, Devon LaPrath and Chandler Curtis, are among the teen golfers who will participate in the First Tee’s national youth leadership event on July 24-30. Hosted by First Tee headquarters, the academy recognizes and rewards exceptional teen participants who are prepared to build upon leadership skills introduced through programs at First Tee chapters. Top coaches in the First Tee’s network deliver the golf and leadership instruction that incorporate the First Tee’s values and life skills in a concentrated, week-long event. Participants build skills preparing them for success beyond the golf course. They will experience championship golf, career exploration, dorm living at Boise State University and meeting other teens from around the country sharing golf as their common bond. Ben Thomas, Board President of the First Tee of Idaho, said “The Idaho chapter is honored and privileged to be selected to host the Life Skills and Leadership Academy for the next two years.  We are looking forward to showcasing our great community to the participants and giving them the opportunity to experience playing at two wonderful golf courses – Ridgecrest Golf Club and Banbury Golf Club.” LaPrath, 16, is a sophomore at Middleton High School in Middleton.
