What is First Tee's Purpose?

We know that character is something you cultivate.  We exist to enable kids to build the strength of character that empowers them through a lifetime of new challenges.

How do you build character through golf?

We see golf as a metaphor for life – a game with unexpected challenges and ups and downs that help build strengths beyond the technical skills to play the game. Through introspective questions, interactive games, and immersive golf exercises, we design each lesson to help kids build a better understanding of themselves and empower them to strengthen the parts of them that they take to everything they do. Research proves it works.

Will my child be participating in a safe environment?

First Tee and its chapters are committed to creating and maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for all participants and individuals affiliated with the organization. As part of our commitment, all employees, coaches and volunteers must complete a background check before working with our youth. In addition, all employees, coaches, volunteers and board members will be required to complete the SafeSport training program. Learn More

What are the core focus areas you're helping kids to develop?

We focus on helping kids develop their character, resilience, self-confidence, and inner strength. Throughout our program we use golf to empower this growth while enabling kids to learn and play the game.

Who can play?

We offer group golf lessons to kids and teens ages 5-18, regardless of background or previous experience. All we ask is that kids come with an open mind and positive attitude.

How do I register my child for the program?
How can I bring First Tee to my area?

There are a few ways you can bring First Tee to your community.

Partner with an existing chapter: Each chapter delivers programs at multiple sites. Consider working with an existing chapter to become an additional location. Contact a chapter in your area or state.

Bring our School Program to your elementary and middle school: This program uses golf lessons to introduce students to character development during physical education class.

Bring our Community Program to your local youth center: This activity-based program was specifically designed and written for youth-serving organizations such as the Boys and Girls Club and the Y.

Develop a chapter: This process takes about two years and includes developing a 501c3 tax exempt entity. Please contact us.

Do I need to provide golf equipment for my kid?

Chapters provide access to all the equipment you will need. No need for special golf attire.

What if my child has never picked up a golf club before?

We know it can feel intimidating to start something new. Everyone was a beginner once and our coaches are trained in creating a supportive environment to make kids feel comfortable and assure they have fun while learning about themselves and golf.

Is there competition and physical activity?

Absolutely! Kids stay active by walking 9 holes of golf and coaches make lessons competitive while having fun. As participants get older, they have the chance to compete at national events held across the country.

Financial concerns?

No worries—chapters offer full scholarships or reduced fee programming for those who need it.
