Nearly 100 Teens to Participate in First Tee’s National Joe Louis Barrow, Jr. Life Skills & Leadership Academy in Boise
Two local participants from First Tee of Idaho will join 94 other junior golfers at national youth leadership event on July 24-30
BOISE, Idaho (July 23, 2019) – Nearly 100 participants from 63 First Tee chapters around the country will converge in Boise this week to participate in the Joe Louis Barrow, Jr. Life Skills & Leadership Academy. Two local participants from the First Tee of Idaho, Devon LaPrath and Chandler Curtis, are among the teen golfers who will participate in the First Tee’s national youth leadership event on July 24-30. Hosted by First Tee headquarters, the academy recognizes and rewards exceptional teen participants who are prepared to build upon leadership skills introduced through programs at First Tee chapters. Top coaches in the First Tee’s network deliver the golf and leadership instruction that incorporate the First Tee’s values and life skills in a concentrated, week-long event. Participants build skills preparing them for success beyond the golf course. They will experience championship golf, career exploration, dorm living at Boise State University and meeting other teens from around the country sharing golf as their common bond. Ben Thomas, Board President of the First Tee of Idaho, said “The Idaho chapter is honored and privileged to be selected to host the Life Skills and Leadership Academy for the next two years. Active in First Tee of Idaho for three years, he volunteers at Rake Up Boise as well as a local soup kitchen. LaPrath also served as a standard bearer at the Korn Ferry Tour’s Boise Open. Curtis, 15, is a sophomore at Bishop Kelly High School in Boise. Active at the local First Tee chapter for nine years, he actively participates at First Tee of Idaho Day and the Idaho Food Bank. Outside of the chapter, Curtis volunteers his time as a member of the Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council and is a member of the Summerwind Skippers Competitive Jump Rope Team. ST. AUGUSTINE, Florida (July 3, 2019) – First Tee and PGA TOUR Champions announced today the 78 First Tee participants selected to play in the 2019 PURE Insurance Championship Impacting The First Tee. The 16th annual event, hosted by the Monterey Peninsula Foundation, will be held September 24-29 at Pebble Beach Golf Links and Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach, California, and will be televised internationally on Golf Channel. The PURE Insurance Championship Impacting The First Tee is the only event of its kind where 78 First Tee teenagers from across the country are paired up with 78 PGA TOUR Champions players and 156 amateurs during an official PGA TOUR Champions tournament. Ranging in ages from 14 to 18, the First Tee participants compete for the Pro-Junior Team title. Representing 27 states, participants were selected by a national panel of judges based on their understanding and application of the values and life skills learned through First Tee’s programs, as well as their playing ability. The full junior field was revealed live on Golf Channel’s “Morning Drive” today, including a video of World Golf Hall of Fame Member Jack Nicklaus surprising Stephen Ma from First Tee of Central Ohio. Charles Schwab donates $5 Million to Support First Tee in Texas
“Charles Schwab Challenge Grant” Funds Nine State Chapters
Fort Worth, TX (May 22, 2019) – First Tee, a youth development organization dedicated to helping young people build character through the game of golf, will expand its programs and deepen its impact on young people in Texas thanks to a challenge grant provided by Charles Schwab. The $5 million donation will also support further development of a First Tee College Scholarship program.
The announcement was made today by Charles R. Schwab and PGA TOUR Commissioner Jay Monahan during the Charles Schwab Challenge, the PGA TOUR’s longstanding tournament at Colonial Country Club in Ft. Worth, Texas.
“We’re very proud to be able to help First Tee expand its reach and impact here in Texas – a major home for Schwab,” Mr. Schwab said. “Golf has so much to offer young people: it requires discipline, is a highly social sport, and is a passion you carry with you for a lifetime. Through the Charles Schwab Challenge Grant, First Tee’s nine Texas chapters will have the opportunity to further the mission in their communities through a match of funds over the next three years. First Tee currently serves young people through chapters in Austin, Dallas, El Paso, Fort Worth, Greater Tyler, Houston, Piney Woods, San Antonio and most recently expanding in to West Texas (Midland).

Royal Moroccan Golf Federation Brings First Tee Program to Young People in Morocco through New Partnership
Announcement made during Trophee Hassan II and Lalla Meryem Cup Tournaments
Rabat, Morocco (April 27, 2019) – Royal Moroccan Golf Federation and First Tee announced today they are partnering to bring character-building programs to Morocco. First Tee of Morocco will become the fifth international First Tee and first on the continent of Africa. The announcement was made at Royal Golf Dar Es Salam in Rabat, Morocco today by His Royal Highness Prince Moulay Rachid and First Tee President Greg McLaughlin. McLaughlin joined Golf Channel’s Morning Drive this past Saturday for the announcement. Four winners will attend the 2019 Wells Fargo Championship in Charlotte, N.C.
New Orleans – April 8, 2019 – Wells Fargo (NYSE: WFC) and The First Tee today announced the 2019 winners of the Succeeding TogetherSM essay contest. Wells Fargo created the national contest specifically for the 30,000+ teenage participants of The First Tee®, a youth development organization dedicated to helping kids build character through the game of golf. The contest asked eligible participants of The First Tee to reflect on their personal journeys for success including their application of The First Tee’s Nine Core Values. Kobe Narcisse, 14, from the First Tee of Greater New Orleans, was named the grand prize winner and will play in the 2019 Wells Fargo Championship Pro-Am with a PGA TOUR golfer on May 1, 2019. Narcisse has been involved in The First Tee for seven years. A freshman at Thomas Jefferson High School in Gretna, Narcisse plays on the school’s football team and has plans to pursue playing collegiate golf. “We’re excited to have one of the winners of Wells Fargo’s Succeeding Together contest from here in New Orleans,” said Nick Carey, marketing manager at Wells Fargo. “It was heart-warming to hear all of the wonderful stories that the contest participants shared through their essays. PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – March 1, 2019 – The First Tee, a youth development organization dedicated to helping kids build character through the game of golf, will return to THE PLAYERS Championship, March 12-17, with a dedicated, immersive and interactive area for kids and families to enjoy all week. The First Tee’s mission will come to life through two interactive and free venues, the Kids Zone presented by The First Tee and the 17th Hole Challenge presented by Optum, Morgan Stanley and Grant Thornton. Both experiences are located in THE PLAYERS Welcome Experience at the Nicklaus Entry and will be open from Tuesday through Sunday during tournament hours. The Kids Zone presented by The First Tee is an immersive destination where kids and families can experience first-hand the fun, interactive and positive attributes of golf through The First Tee. The 2,500-square-foot, air-conditioned venue will feature golf-themed games and activities that introduce kids to the sport and The First Tee’s signature programs currently offered in the U.S. and select international locations. On-site highlights include The First Tee’s par-3 Mini-Golf Challenge, a golf simulator, digital photo booth, The First Tee Target Wall and parent recharge stations with a live feed of the tournament.
